ReplyDeleteHi everyone
ReplyDeleteIt's the first time that I can study about this topic patiently and there are a lot of things that called my attention.
1 Everything that we know like "normal things" came to this process, like our perception of time and live to work and pay things, for example.
2 While it’s true that the family still was conditioned by men, I noticed that, before the Industrial Revolution, all their members worked at home and collaborated with the family economy, while with this process families just started to think in work to eat, because the job moved into the factories.
3 Another curious thing to me was the change experienced by some families of the old nobility, because they had to create enterprises and start to move to the industrial cities, to learn about the modern lifestyle.
4 Another important matter was the new education and new “values” for the working class: discipline, time sense and obedience. The new education system wasn't considered arts and sensibilities, because people were made for work in the factories.
5 Normally we think new middle class had all the social recognized immediately, but it was false, and that called my attention, because, in some places of Europe, the old aristocracy still had power and social influence. But the old high society was homogeneous, unlike the new class and it was explained in the text through the Renault family story. They were textile businessmen, but both brothers started a car business that still exists, and it was very interesting to me.
6 In Chile, Industrial Revolution had an important role in modern journalism, because many newspapers were created by industrial workers united in committees. There were anarchist, liberal and communist media that showed the opinions and political points of view of the working class. The most famous newspaper were “El ferrocarril” that was bought by “El mercurio” with the pass of years.
Thanks so much for your thourough comment, Ross!
DeleteI think that all of your points are really interesting, especially point number 4. SInce I am a teacher, I feel kind of sick when in the video and in the text the way of education was mentioned. And actually, that unfortunately still happens, we are still educating people to follow and obey orders.
Thank you miss. It´s so sad
